Newsprint
Newsprint is produced from wood containing pulp and is a relatively low quality paper.
The pulp used for newsprint production by suppliers in Europe is typically recycled whereas suppliers in other areas such as U.S.A, Canada or Russia tend to use virgin pulp.
The thinness of this paper means that it can be produced economically but it is also thick enough to allow for printing on both sides making it a low cost solution for printing requirements.
As newsprint is a non-archival paper due to its low strength and low resistance to ageing, it is ideal for short term printing requirements such as a daily newspaper.
Newsprint paper is used to print newspapers but is also emerging as a low cost packaging paper and is used for filler packaging, wrapping and even table covers.
Categories of Newsprint
There are varying subcategories of newsprint categorized by the % of brightness and also color.
High bright newsprint is produced by using an additional bleaching process during manufacturing and this paper is commonly found in 40-55gsm in 68, 70 and 72% ISO brightness.
Newsprint can also be dyed during the production process to manufacture colored newsprint; the standard colors are green, blue, pink, yellow, orange and salmon.
